Description of Project

The building eventually known as Austin Court was originally a derelict listed building. The project was to refurbish the building to provide state of the art conferencing and lecture facilities for the institute of Electrical Engineers. The final result provides an industrial feel within the building which was at some stage during its life a garage, a needle factory, with its routes firmly within an industrial heritage. The building is now well used and a credit to the Institution of Electrical Engineers.

Description of Project

Adjacent to the M6 in Birmingham lies the ex-tyre store used by Dunlop Tyres. This building provides approximately 300,000sqft2 of floor plate and it was determined that this should be converted into office accommodation. The building has been unoccupied in order of 30 years and the project involves cost effective conversion of the former warehouse building into a quality office environment. The building services installation comprise innovative lighting and heating solutions providing flexibility within the building for a variation of future tenant requirements. A feature of the project was the extent of existing services on the site which required detailed negotiation and liaison with the various service companies.

Due to the centralised function of this facility to provide catering to the workforce from the site it was necessary to relocate facilities contained within the building around the site. This involved detailed liaison with Cadburys to ensure that all parameters were met, of price, programme and workforce satisfaction. Various schemes were undertaken as part of this project including dining facilities into the Centenary Club Cafe facilities within the Linden 2 block, meeting facilities within the Linden 2.

Description of Project

A new 7500sq metre production facility was constructed on the existing site to treble the production of the lightweight construction blocks and specialist panels. The building supported the existing building with interlinking mixing vats for the main core process material. The site was engineering with a supporting CHP plant providing combined power and heating facilities to the new plant with capacity to the existing plant. The gas turbine powered CHP plant rated at 1250Kva provided all power and process heat with water filtration beds and lagoons on site for the heat dissipation and cooling for the 150m autoclaves.

115 Colmore Row is a 85,000ft squared office block in the centre of Birmingham. The Block is solely occupied by Eversheds Solicitors. Our Duties within the project were to advise the client on suitable electrical and mechanical service installations for incorporation within the base build project. In addition, for the corporate areas of the building and in the ground and first floors, which were to be in the main reception and greetings area, dining spaces and meeting rooms, we designed the mechanical and electrical services installations within.
